Our Methodology

Audiology is the branch of science dedicated to the assessment and treatment of hearing and balance disorders. At the Association of Early Intervention for Children with Disabilities, our audiology room is equipped to provide comprehensive hearing evaluations and support for children with hearing impairments. Our audiologists specialize in diagnosing and managing hearing loss, fitting hearing aids, and offering rehabilitation services to improve auditory function. They also assist individuals with balance disorders related to inner ear conditions.

Common Audiology Tests

We offer a range of tests to assess hearing and balance, ensuring accurate diagnosis and appropriate intervention:

  • Pure-Tone Audiometry: Measures the faintest tones a person can hear at different frequencies using headphones or earphones.
  • Speech Audiometry: Evaluates the ability to hear and understand speech at various volumes.
  • Play Audiometry: A child-friendly test designed for young children (ages 2-5) to assess hearing through interactive play.
  • Tympanometry: Examines middle ear function by varying air pressure to detect issues like fluid buildup or eardrum perforations.
  • Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) Test: Assesses inner ear function, commonly used for newborn hearing screenings.
  • Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR): Measures brain activity in response to sound, particularly useful for infants or individuals who cannot participate in traditional hearing tests.
  • Middle Ear Muscle Reflex Test: Evaluates the auditory nerve and brainstem response to loud sounds.

  • Advanced Audiometer: Produces a range of tones and frequencies to assess hearing levels.
  • Specialized Headphones & Bone Conduction Headphones: Used to differentiate between types of hearing loss.
  • Loudspeakers: Used for aided audiometry and free-field testing.
  • Response System: Includes buttons, hand-raising techniques, and play audiometry tasks for young children.
  • Otoscope: Allows examination of the outer ear and ear canal before testing.
  • Impedance (Tympanometry) Equipment: Measures eardrum movement to assess middle ear function.
  • Comfortable Patient Chair: Ensures proper positioning and comfort during assessments.
  • Computerized Testing System: Records and analyzes test results for accurate reporting.
